Guest & Tanner Real Estate is the undoubted definition of a streamlined estate agency that did a lot to ease the transition from mud huts to modern living. Few cities can boast such a panoramic transformation in 100 years as the then Salisbury now Harare. A firm which has done much towards the expansion is Guest & Tanner Real Estate – one of Zimbabwe’s oldest and established estate agents. The firm began to embryonically as Brown’s agencies in 1926 – when at the first recorded directors’ meeting, one J. Brown was appointed Managing Director. In 1937, Basil Guest took over Brown’s agency and was subsequently joined by Mr. Peter Tanner. In May 1940, the name was changed to Guest & Tanner Real Estate. Peter retired in the late 1940s, and in 1947 Mr. V.O. Sharp joined the firm. He became the Managing Director in 1963 after the death of Basil. Guest then passed on the reigns to his nephew; Richard M. Sharp upon retirement. Richard is still the chairman to date and Cletus Chakoma has since joined the board and is the Managing Director.
